Themes and patterns often repeat long into adulthood.  Reframing what is happening removes the shame left over from childhood. And helps us see those repeating themes in a different light.

Hey there, little girl. The reason you're crying is because they keep running over your heart. That's all. It's not because you're too sensitive or weak or there's something wrong with you. It's because it really does hurt when the gift that you are is not properly held. It's because the family you were born into and the community that surrounds them really do not know what to do with hearts like yours. They've mishandled you over and over, then dropped you on a dime. It's a theme in your life. But what we're not going to do anymore is to take that on. To think somehow there is something wrong with you. We're done with that. Because then we would be doing the same thing too, mishandling your heart. And we're also not going to let what happens take up any more space than it needs to. You've done so much to get where you are. The fact is you were mishandled, and it hurts like hell. And we're just going to let ourselves feel the grief of that so it can flow right on through and do its work. Then we won't get stuck. You are not alone when you cry. I got you. I really do. You keep right on walking, right on feeling, right on singing and living your life, and keep putting your voice to what you feel in your own quiet way, 'cause you know what that does for you. I love you.
