Gratitude Among The Weeds

Gratitude smiles at us even among the weeds.

There are some intense struggles I'm in the middle of, and like all struggles, it easily impacts everything else, even limiting my vision and cutting off all inspiration. But when gratitude appears from somewhere within, almost as if peeking up out at me from among the weeds as it did today, I can't help but smile. Grateful for the reminder that life is bigger, even when I'm feeling in the weeds. And so for today, I'm just gonna list a whole bunch of things I'm truly grateful for, things that bring me joy and feed my soul. I'm grateful for today and being able to spend most of it outside working from home, and then laying in the grass, feeling a sense of relief and accomplishment when the mountain of documentation, emails, and prep work for next week was complete, and then letting go of circumstances and situations dealt with while taking in the sunshine and cool breeze. Or getting a call in the middle of a meeting going nowhere. Now that's the best. Oh, I'm so sorry. I need to go. We'll catch up later, okay? That walk out to my car never felt so good. I'm grateful for the small group of people who made it possible to accompany my son to his new place of residence across multiple state lines. I'll be able to help him settle in and do the mom things in the middle of transition because of them. That trip starts in just over a week. I'm grateful for the mom who, when I first met, immediately called out, You're beautiful, never knowing how much that impacted me in the middle of feeling alone and invisible. I really enjoy when a new way of seeing something dawns within me, causing my heart to open, especially when it turns a narrow perspective on its head and opens up the world in a whole new way. And insect repellent sticks, they're the best, smoking out those pesky sweat bees while I sit at my stump each evening. I'm grateful for the plants and flowers my son purchased as a birthday gift this summer. They surround me every morning as I sit on my porch, soaking in the moments before going to work. And for the voice in my ear that came out of nowhere saying, Go now, making a third trip to urgent care productive, where a new doctor's assessment saved my life. I enjoy sarcasm and wits so much, and the conversation over text today that caused laughter to spill right out of me while I laid in the grass. It felt so good to laugh. And for the journey within, where I'm discovering that even in silence, there are bonds that never break, no matter how long it's been or how far apart we are.
